Fibre Arts

Ko te taura whiri, he whiri i te tangata

The flax fibre cord is the cord that connects people.

Flax and other forms of indigenous flora have played a fundamental part in Māori society. Our fibre arts have evolved through the generations across a range of taonga including korowai (cloaks), kete (baskets), and general garments and accessories. Hand woven and highly time consuming, these equisite traditions are maintained throughout Aotearoa today.
