Tauranga Moana, Ngāi Tūhoe, Ngāti Kahungunu
Shepherd Phillips grew up in the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand’s North Island. A pounamu and bone carver, Hepara also works with stone. He is also a tā moko (traditional Māori tattoo) artist and has trained and practised across New Zealand, learning components of the ancient body art form.
Hepara has a strong desire to teach young people in his home town, so that they may one day also have the chance to do something for their people.
