Ross Wesche

Te Whakatōhea

Weaver Ross Wesche hails from Opotiki in the North Island of New Zealand and works with traditional Māori fibres such as harakeke (flax). Ross’s interest in rāranga (weaving) began more than 30 years ago when he would play in a pā harakeke (flax garden) and at his primary school where he made tipare (headbands). The full-time commercial weaver is dedicated to preserving the art of raranga and believes the most important thing about being a weaver is being able to pass on the knowledge and skill to future generations of Māori people.
