Eugene is Tumu - Te Ahi Kōmau (head of bronze casting) at NZMACI.

“Part of what the bronze foundry offers, is an innovative space within customary practices, to test and probe into areas a bit new, such as bronze, resins, 3D printing and other technologies," he explains.

“For example with the Te Arawa Soldiers project, digital technology was used to replicate two soldier figures from the original statues which were destroyed, using a Victoria University 3D printer, from which we cast."

Eugene also led a 3.5 year project to create a bronze whatarangi (elevated storehouse) for the United Nations in New York.

“I love unlocking the real potential of our art form.”
